Veterinary student Kayla presented at the 2023 Veterinary Scholars Symposium

As a 2023 Veterinary Research Scholar, Kayla Justiss joined the Fon Tacer lab for the summer to explore her interest in research. She optimized RNA isolation from melanoma tumors and developed RT-qPCR primers to investigate the role of melanoma antigen genes (MAGEs) in the development of equine melanoma. In August, Kayla traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico to present a poster on her research at the Veterinary Scholars Symposium, where she interacted with students from around the world to discuss emerging research ideas. Kayla enjoyed immersing herself in Puerto Rican culture by exploring with her fellow TTU SVM scholars during their spare time.
